Celebrating Independence

It's hard to believe it's been 8 years since we closed on our little cottage... it was a gamble to buy the worst house in the best hood, but we think we made out OK. Here she is all dressed up for the fourth! Hope you all have a happy holiday.

Our light that was backordered forever finally arrived and Shannon got it hung this weekend. I loooove the bubbles hanging down and it casts a great, soft light through the stringed drum.

it never stops

Or HE never stops - and thank goodness :) There's always something to do, and lately it's been hanging lights, hanging curtains, finishing up the sunporch interior.

There's no place like it

We have grass!

The backyard has been an evolution over many years (to say the least)! From taming the ivy, to uncovering hardscapes and heirloom plants, it's been... fun. But more recently, we had a few unhealthy trees removed, which really opened up the back to sunlight, and we also did a ton of work to level and grade the space, including removing all that ivy and exposing all the red clay in the great state of Georgia. but now, after spraying grass seed a few months ago, we officially have grass! We still need to get some plants in the ground (this fall), and get a fence up (hopefully this summer), but it's really come a long way! 

A loft-y goal

When we reimagined the open space upstairs (adjacent to our master suite), we envisioned dreamy wood beams, cozy reading nooks, a place for allll the books, and a quiet sitting area (sans TV of any kind). We still can't get over how well it turned out. Shannon calls it the "lady lair" because I can often be found here, reading, pinning, or just drinking coffee while listening to soft music while my ridiculous electric fireplace warms my footsies juuuuuust right. But occasionally I lure him up here too with a good book, or just a nice snuggle.
